Department News and Events

February 2015: Congratulations to Biology alum William (Bill) Koch for being accepted to the dual DO/PhD program at the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, OH. Bill begins his program in July 2015.  He is currently completing his Master of Biomedical Sciences degree from The Commonwealth Medical College in Scranton, PA.

January 2015: Congratulations to Biology majors Erin Kezele and Kateyn Stewart whose research posters were accepted to be presented at the 2015 Ohio Stormwater Management Conference. They will present two posters in May reporting their results from their investigation of Ursuline's campus lake and stream.  

January 2015: Congratulations to Biology major Margaret Janko for being accepted as a 2015 Teach for America Corps Scholar.  Margaret plans to begin her pedagogical studies this summer and is tentatively scheduled to teach in New Orleans, LA.

January 2015: Congratulations to Biology professor Jenise Snyder for receiving an Ohio Environmental Protection Agency Office of Environmental Education Grant.  The department was awarded $26,135 to complete "Stream Restoration Monitoring and Assessment to Improve Campus and Community Environmental Education".  Biology students Alexis Bradford, Erin Kezele, Katelyn Stewart, and Perisha Wallace as well as students in US 401: Water and Society are assisting in completing the project.

September 2014: Congratulations to Biology major Margaret Janko for completing an accelerated Ecology field course at The Ohio State University Stone Lab this summer. She donated her invertebrate specimen collection from her research to Ursuline College.

April 2014: Thanks to the Biology students and faculty to helping restore our campus stream vegetation.  More than 1000 trees and shrubs have been replanted to help stabilize the soils around our campus streams.  The volunteer project was covered in Ursuline's VOICES.

March 2014: Congratulations to dual Biology/Art major Rachel Neal for receiving the 2014 Kirtlandia Research Internship through the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.

February 2014: Congratulations to Biology major Sharita Hill has been awarded the 2014 Woodrow Wilson Ohio Teaching Fellowship.  Sharita will pursue her Master’s in Education at John Carroll University in the fall of 2014.  Sharita's comments on recieving this honor can been seen in Ursuline's VOICES.
