English Scholarship


The Sister Michael Francis Hearon, O.S.U., Scholarship
Offered by The Ursuline College Department of English


The English Department of Ursuline College is pleased to offer the Sister Michael Francis Hearon, O.S.U. Scholarship to recognize and encourage an outstanding incoming full-time, first-year student who has expressed an interest in the English major. The student may apply for renewal of the scholarship each year for a maximum of four years of full-time study as an English major at Ursuline College.


This award is presented annually from the Sister Michael Francis Hearon, O.S.U., Endowed Scholarship Fund, which was established in 1989 by many of the College's English major alumnae with the support of the English Department, other alumnae, and friends. The scholarship is designed as a lasting tribute to Sister Michael Francis Hearon, O.S.U., who retired in 1987 after thirty-three years of service to the College. She is fondly remembered as' an extraordinary teacher of English language and literature.

Pharmacy Partnerships

Choose Ohio First Scholarship Program

The Ursuline College/University of Toledo Pharmacy Partnership has received a grant from the Ohio Board of Regents under the Choose Ohio First Program. The Choose Ohio First Program was developed to increase the number of Ohio graduates in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEMM), including pharmacy and pharmaceutical Sciences.

Students who enter into the pharmacy through the Ursuline College/University of Toledo Partnership may be eligible for $3,500 per year through 2012-2013 while enrolled in the program.

Applications will be reviewed on an individual basis by an application review committee. Criteria include:

- High academic ability combined with financial need
- High STEMM potential
- Ohio residency


Additional consideration will be given to students who have participated in Ursuline College or University of Toledo recruitment programs. The admission application and FASFA must be submitted by March 1 in order to be eligible for this scholarship. Review of applications will begin on March 1 and continue until all scholarships have been awarded.

CHOOSE OHIO FIRST SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FOR PRE-ENGINEERING

If you're thinking of a career in math or science, Ursuline College has a new opportunity for you, a $4700 annual scholarship from the Ohio Board of Regents for pre-engineering study. This award will be given to one Ursuline student beginning in Fall 2009 as part of a new partnership with Cleveland State University.

"Engineering Across the Pipeline" is a new program that combines the best of liberal arts and professional education. It gives you all the advantages of individualized attention in small classes at Ursuline, plus the training you need for a career in engineering. If you are admitted to the program, you will complete your bachelor's degree in Mathematics or Biology at Ursuline while preparing for Cleveland State's Fenn College of Engineering. As an undergraduate, you will meet students and faculty from Cleveland State in on- and off-campus courses, virtual learning communities, mentoring, and research opportunities. Bridge programs will enable you to complete your MasterĂ¢??s in engineering at Cleveland State after you graduate from Ursuline. Cleveland State offers MasterĂ¢??s degrees in environmental, chemical, electrical, industrial, mechanical, civil, and software engineering.
