Arrows Secure Winning Season With 4-1 Win Over Hilbert
October 27, 2009
Ursuline College women's soccer secured the first winning season in program history on Tuesday night with a 4-1 victory over Hilbert College. The Arrows, who improved to 9-6-2 on the season, are left with just one game remaining on the season, this weekend at Shawnee State. Junior
Jaimie Grindle led the UC attack scoring two goals and assisting on the other two.
The Arrows built a 3-0 lead by halftime, scoring three times in the first half. Grindle, who scored the first goal of the afternoon, assisted on the game-winner by
Amanda Shay. Grindle's first goal was assisted by
Ashley Reeves, while the second came off of a cross from
Brittany Fox.
Hilbert managed to get on the scoreboard in the second half with an unassisted goal by Maggie Fage with just over 20 minutes left in the game. However, the Arrows reclaimed their three goal advantage just a minute and three seconds later when Grindle assisted
Heather Beachy for the score.
UC out-shot Hilbert by an impressive 13-4 margin, while goalkeeper
Rachael Smith only needed to collect one save to secure the victory.
The Arrows ninth win of the season is the most in a single-season and secured the programs first winning season. In 2003, UC finished with eight wins and a .500 record at 8-8. The nine wins this season surpasses the win total from the past two seasons combined (3 in 2008 and 5 in 2007). Ursuline will look to conclude the 2009 season with a conference win against Shawnee State University on October 31, 2009 at 2:30 p.m.
