In game one, Mount Vernon held the Arrows to only four hits in the 6-0 loss. In the top of the first, Kristen Roznoski reached on an infield-single, but was caught stealing for only the eighth time in 37 attempts. Lauren Grana followed with a single, but was erased on a double-play.
Ursuline never really put together a scoring threat as only once did they manage to get a base runner to second base, as in the fourth back-to-back errors by Mount Vernon gave the Arrows two base runners with two outs. Both were left stranded.
Still, MVNU only held a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning. However, they did manage to secure the win with five runs on six hits and two Ursuline errors.
In game two, Ursuline claimed a 1-0 lead in the second inning as Ciara Seymour led off with a double to right. She later scored on a two-out single to left by Kami Weikel.
The Arrows held the 1-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh as Seymour was pitching strong for the second-straight afternoon. With one out in the last inning, Mount Vernon managed a triple to right, followed by a sacrifice bunt that worked to perfection allowing the runner to score from third and the runner also reached first as the Arrows attempted to keep the one run lead.
After another single, the Arrows were able to record a second out on an infield fly, but MVNU managed a two-out RBI-single to win the game and take both games of the doubleheader.
Ursuline will return to action on Friday, April 30 to face Shawnee State to wrap up conference play. The home doubleheader will start at 1:00 p.m.
