Ursuline drops both games of doubleheader against Spring Arbor

May 1, 2010

PEPPER PIKE, OHIO - The Ursuline College Softball team (11-29) dropped two close games to Spring Arbor University on Saturday afternoon at home. In game one, the Arrows fell 3-2, followed by a 5-2 loss in game two.

In the first game, Ursuline took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI-single by Miranda Boggs that scored Lauren Grana, who reached on a single to left.

However, Spring Arbor scored an unearned run in the second off of starter Ciara Seymour. The Cougars then added single tallies in the sixth and seventh inning to lead 3-1.

The Arrows tried to get back into the game in their last at-bat. Britney Mascia led off with a triple to center and scored on a single by Melissa Ruminski. However, Ursuline could not manage another run as Ruminski was thrown out at third base trying to advance on a single by Kami Weikel

In game two, Seymour stayed on the mound and kept the Arrows in the game. Despite giving up an unearned run in the first and a earned run in the fourth, Ursuline had its chances. Seymour was lifted in the fifth inning, where the Cougars scored two more runs, both unearned. They added the fifth and final run in the seventh inning.

Once again the Arrows looked for late-inning magic. Down 5-0 in the last inning, Ursuline scored twice as Kristen Roznoski singled and stole second with one out. She scored on a double by Grana, who then scored on a RBI-single to center by Hillary Beachy.

However, that is all the Arrows could manage, falling 5-2 in game two.

In between games one and two, Ursuline honored Senior Hillary Beachy. The Senior Day celebration recognized the accomplishments of Beachy, which include three straight years of being named to an All-Conference team (including two first team selections), an NAIA Academic All-American, and many other athletic and academic honors.
