Softball recruit named Player of the Year in Maine

July 20, 2010

The Ursuline College Softball program announced that Sarah Maxwell signed her Letter of Intent to play softball for the Arrows back in March. She comes to Pepper Pike, Ohio from Maranacook High School in Readfield, Maine.

Maxwell, who can both pitch and play at first base, was recently named Player of the Year in the state of Maine. She was a first-team All-Conference selection as a freshman, sophomore and junior, and Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Player of the Year over the last two seasons.

?We're thrilled to sign Sarah Maxwell,? said Head Coach Sue Woodford. ?We expect her to have a strong impact on our program as a freshman. She has the competitive drive and the work ethic to help take us to the top of our conference. We're expecting big things out of Sarah in the future and are looking forward to seeing her compete in the Gold and Blue of Ursuline College."

Kennebec Journal about Sarah Maxwell: ?An all-around player that still has a year to grow into her game. For the two-time reigning Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B MVP -- a pitcher already throwing in the low-60s and clubbing the ball at a .500 clip -- that's a frightening proposition.?
