Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a free service available to current students, faculty and staff of Ursuline College and Sisters of the Ursuline Community.

It provides these patrons access to books or copies of articles NOT available at the Ursuline College Library. Ursuline College Library will request these items from other libraries on the behalf of its patrons. The conditions of ILL service are established by the National Interlibrary Loan Code, 1980 (adopted by the American Library Association).

Restrictions

Some restrictions apply. Some materials are not available through Interlibrary Loan. Rare books, fragile materials, microfilm, audiovisual materials and reference books are some of the items that libraries restrict from lending. Materials borrowed from other libraries may not be placed on reserve. The lending library may specify that its materials only be used in the library or that no photocopies of the material be made. All materials are subject to recall at any time by the lending library.

Students my request up to 2 items per week. Copyright restrictions are: 5 articles from any one journal title from the last 5 years can be requested during each calendar year by the entire Ursuline community.

Using ILL

Before requesting a periodical article, check to see if it is available online by using our Journal Finder. Before requesting a book, check the library catalog and the OhioLINK catalog to see if the book is available. The Reference Librarian can help you with the search.

To make a request, ILL forms are available at the Reference/Information Desk, the Interlibrary Loan Desk and online. A separate form is needed for each item requested. Complete, accurate and legible information is essential for us to request the material for you. Materials usually arrive in about ten days, although many articles can be received more quickly in electronic format. The lending library is responsible for filling the request and there may be circumstances in the lending library that may delay filling the request. We will notify you by telephone or e-mail when the materials arrive, but you can always call the Interlibrary Loan Assistant at 440-646-8186 or email to ill@ursuline.edu to check on any request.

Photocopies and email attachments are yours to keep. You must return ILL books directly to the Ursuline College Library. Loan periods for books are determined by the lending library but are usually 2-3 weeks. Renewals are not guaranteed, so contact ILL staff (ill@ursuline.edu) a few days before the due date to request a renewal. Overdue fines are $1.00 per day for students, faculty and staff. Books and AV 30 days overdue will be billed $125.00. This bill will be reduced to $50.00 if the item is returned in a timely manner.
