Who can check out a laptop?

Can I book in advance?
Yes, you can. Keep in mind that if laptops are not reserved, they are available on a first-come, firt-served basis. Requests to book a laptop should be submitted at least 24 hours prior to the requested checkout time. Reservations for laptops not picked up by an hour after the requested time is subject to cancellation.
How do I request that?
First, you need to be in the library system to check out a laptop. This can be done by visiting the library, or fill out the online form
To request equipment, do any of the following: Call us at 440-646-8182; Visit us in the Media Center to fill out a yellow Equipment Request form; or go online at . Please request equipment at least 1 week prior to need. We may not be able to accommodate last minute requests.
How long can I check one out?
The regular loan period will be for one day, or over the weekend, or if the user is attending a conference or event, for the duration of the conference or event, but in most circumstances, it should not exceed two weeks. Faculty and staff members are responsible for securing the laptop for the duration of the loan period. Under no circumstances should the laptop be mailed to a conference site, or left unattended in an unsecured location.
Do I need to log on to start using the laptop?
Yes, you will need to log on the computer while you are on campus. If you have questions or problems, please contact Computer Information Services at 440-449-4624 or 440-646-8391.
What about storing my files?
Before returning the laptop, your will need to save files to another storage device. If this is not done prior to the return of the laptop, your files may be lost. Borrowers are responsible for providing their own storage device or disks on which to save their work.
Both Ralph M. Besse Library - Media Center and Computer Information Services are not responsible for any loss of or damage to a user's files as a consequence of use of the laptop. Neither Computer Informtion Services nor Ralph M. Besse Library - Media Center is responsible for files left on the laptop once it is returned by the borrower.
Help, the equipment doesn't work!

What happens if something is damaged?
Borrowers accept full financial responsibility for damage or loss to the laptop or peripherals. It is up to Computer Information Services to assess what needs to be repaired or replaced. Simply notify the Media Center of the loss or return the damaged equipment to us and we will notify CIS. It is then up to you to work with CIS to clear your record.
