1098-T FORMS

2016 Tax Documentation

1098-T FORMS

1098-T forms will be available to students by January 31, 2017* either via email (if the student opted for electronic notification) or postcard mailed to your home address.

*If a student's scholarships and grants exceeded the cost of tuition (room and board is not considered as a qualifying charge), there will NOT be any 1098-T information available.

Students will need their Account Number (SSN), School Code (6W), and PIN/Password to access their ECSI account and retrieve their 1098T.

This is the link to the instructions students can use to login to ECSI and retrieve their form

In the section "How can I get my login information if I do not know it?" select the link 'click here to retrieve your login credentials'.  Once you enter the requested information and submit, your credentials will appear.  **Please note that the zip code entered must match the one on file that the school sent to ECSI.**  Once logged in, select 'Tax Information'.

The information on the 1098-T form is provided to assist each Student/Taxpayer in preparing the IRS Form 8863, which is used to claim the American Opportunity or Lifetime Learning Credits.  Once completed, the 8863 form should be attached to the Student/Taxpayers return to determine eligibility and the amount of the Education credit (if any) that she/he may be entitled to on their Individual Tax Return.

Students in the following circumstances will NOT receive a 1098-T:

· You took only courses for which no academic credit was offered (even if you are enrolled in a degree program),

· you are a nonresident alien and did not request that your school provide you with a 1098-T,

· your tuition was paid in full by scholarships and/or grants, or

· your tuition was paid by an agreement between your school and an employer or by the government like the Department of Veteran’s Affairs or the Department of Defense.
