Orientation Team Advisor Position:

Priority Deadline: Wednesday, January 22, 2014
Group Interview Activity:  Sunday, January 26, from 2:00-5:00pm
Individual Interview:  Times available on January 27, 29, 30, approximately 45 minutes

The leadership role of the Orientation Team Advisor (OTAs) is invaluable in the creation of the Orientation program for new students.  The OTAs collaborate with each other, along with the Coordinator of Orientation, to develop and implement all aspects of the Orientation program and Welcome Week.  OTAs are expected to manage multiple priorities, professionally represent Ursuline College and Orientation Office, oversee assigned aspects of program planning, mentor OAs and new students, and bring creative and enthusiastic energy to the Orientation program. 

Time Commitment

·   Weekly meetings throughout spring semester

·  OA Selection Process – Sunday group process and individual interviews as available

· One on one meetings with Emily approximately every other week

· Spring Training Day – Saturday, April 5, 2014

· Full-time commitment in August – likely with option to live on campus

· Fully participate in OTA Retreat day in August

Important Dates in August

· Orientation Arrows Training – tentatively August 19-22, 2014

· Orientation – tentatively August 22-24, 2014

· Welcome Week – August 25-29, 2014

· Reside on campus throughout training, move-in and Fall Orientation, and for commuters possibly Welcome Week

Additional Expectations

· Collaborate with other Team Advisors and College administrators and staff

· Represent the Orientation Office and Ursuline College well in all preparations for Orientation

OTAs are assigned various responsibilities on which they work, including, but not limited to, the following areas:

· Plan and implement Spring Training Day for the Orientation Team

· Various administrative aspects of Orientation: 

o    Create registration spreadsheets

o    Assign student groups

o    Create and oversee mailings

o    Order supplies and giveaways

o    Oversee all aspects of Check-In, including preparation of materials, folders, signage, oversee set-up, etc.

· Assist in registering students during the Transfer Orientation days (a short time each of three days)

· Oversee Fall Training for the Orientation Team: collaborate with other OTAs to plan, prepare and facilitate Fall Training

· Plan and prepare President’s Spirit Brunch

· Plan and prepare first night Social Event

· Plan and prepare Commuter Session

· Assist in planning and preparing Core Value sessions

· Assist in planning and preparing Hot Topics session

· Prepare materials for web-site

· Oversee development of Orientation Arrow Team, including mailings to Team, follow-up with Team members, and “Suzy Sunshine” throughout training and Orientation weekend

· Oversee the student role in summer Academic Orientation:  prepare all materials needed for AO days; train and guide up to 4 OAs in their work; facilitate AO days

· Oversee aspects of Parent Orientation:  prepare materials needed for both summer and fall Parent Sessions; train and guide Parent OAs during summer AO; oversee Parent check-in 

· Assist with creating Internal Schedule and OA Jobs list

· Plan and implement Welcome Week programming

Individual Interview:  Times available on February 17, 18, 24 & 25, approximately 30 minutes

The role of the Orientation Arrows is invaluable to Fall Orientation and Welcome Week at Ursuline College.  Orientation Arrows represent Ursuline by welcoming new students to campus, and strive to make them comfortable and confident in this new phase of their lives.  Orientation Arrows work as a team, whose goal is to successfully acclimate new students to the Ursuline College environment, thus promoting long-term success.  Some ways in which Orientation Arrows achieve this goal includes: 

  • Welcoming new students as they arrive on campus, assisting with move-in
  • Talking to parents and families, and answering questions about Ursuline
  • Leading small group discussions on issues of transition and success at Ursuline
  • Sharing with students what it is like to be an Ursuline College student
  • Implementing all aspects of Orientation and Welcome Week programming
  • Encouraging involvement in social activities during Orientation and Welcome Week
  • Answering questions about the College and campus policies
  • Assisting students who are having a difficult time during their first week at Ursuline
Expectations
As an Orientation Arrow, you are expected to fulfill the following requirements of the position:
  • Collaborate with Orientation Team Advisors (OTAs) and other members of the Orientation Arrows team
  • Attend and actively participate in the spring semester training session on Saturday, April 5
  • Attend and actively participate in Arrows Training – tentatively August  19, 20, 21
  • Attend and actively participate in the entire Fall Orientation – tentatively August  22, 23, 24
  • Attend and actively participate in assigned portions of Welcome Week – August 25, 26, 27, 28, 29
  • Reside on campus throughout training, move-in and Fall Orientation, and for commuters possibly Welcome Week
  • Respect all incoming students and strive to make their Orientation experience successful
  • Adhere to all College policies, as well as position expectations and guidelines established by the Orientation Office
  • Positively represent Ursuline College
  • Wear the assigned attire throughout Orientation and Welcome Week in order to  be identifiable in the OA role

Other Leadership Opportunities:

· Many different executive committees and planning teams are selected throughout the year, some of which have an application and interview process.

· Students will develop immense leadership skills through involvement on the Orientation Team, Student Leadership Conference Executive Committee, Founder’s Week Executive Committee and Student Leadership Retreat Planning Team.
