Bachelor of Science in Nursing
(Accelerated Program for Second Degree Students)

The Breen School of Nursing at Ursuline College and Fairview Hospital offers an accelerated degree program for second-degree students. The Accelerated BSN degree option is designed for student who hold a baccalaureate degree in another major and who are interested in pursuing a degree in nursing. The program includes all the courses of a fully approved and accredited traditional BSN program, but they are offered in a concentrated period of time. After successful completion of the program students receive a BSN degree and are eligible to sit for the RN licensing exam (NCLEX).

Accelerated Program Admission Process

• Acceptance to Ursuline College
• 2.5 GPA in first undergraduate degree
• 2.5 cumulative GPA in anatomy & physiology (2 semesters), chemistry (inorganic & organic/biochem), micro, and math
• A grade of C or better in all prerequisite courses (anatomy & physiology, microbiology, chemistry, math, nutrition, sociology, psychology, lifespan)
• Sciences are to be no older than five years; if older, must be retaken
• All prerequisite courses must be completed by December of the year preceding the start of nursing courses (e.g.: 12/08 for the 5/09 class)

Following acceptance to Ursuline College the student must then apply to The Breen School of Nursing Accelerated Program:

• Complete application form for accelerated nursing program
• Complete a 1-2 page double-spaced essay which describes the following:
  1. Why you are selecting nursing as a second career?
  2. Employment history since completion of first degree
  3. Career goals as a professional nurse
• On-campus interview with Coordinator of Nursing Enrollment after submission of application and essay
• Up-To-Date resume

Application process deadline for the following May class is August 1

Required Courses

Ursuline Studies courses (Ursuline College Core Curriculum) must be taken at Ursuline College.

This is a fifteen month program. Nursing courses to be completed in sequence at Fairview Hospital.
