The Master of Management (MM) Program at Ursuline College is authorized by the Ohio Board of Regents and accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association.
Application
All candidates must complete an application to the School of Graduate Studies.
The application is available online or as an Adobe Acrobat (PDF) document .
Resume
Candidates must submit a current resume including their most recent managerial experience.
Recommendations
Each candidate will submit three (3) letters of recommendation from people who know the candidate in a professional capacity. (Required recommendation form)
Management Experience
The Master of Management (MM) program will depend on each student bringing managerial experience into the classroom.
This experience is an important adjunct to their classroom learning. The richness of each student's learning is a function of the mean level of experience in their student cohort. Three to five years of managerial experience is expected from each candidate.
However, we define the practice of management broadly: if people rely on you for guidance, you are responsible for their performance, and you and the people engage in an array of tasks and activities, you are a practicing manager.
Career Goals and Admission Essay
All candidates will be asked to make a brief statement that describes their career goals. The candidates' commitment to their professional management development will be counted as an admission decision factor.
Additionally, candidates will be asked to compose an essay on their philosophy of management and leadership.
In the essay candidates will be asked to discuss their thinking on the dimensions of management they believe to be key elements of managerial and leadership effectiveness, including their vision of their organization as it reflect ethics, social responsibility, and justice.
The essay will serve to (a) further evaluate the admissibility of the candidates and (b) assess their writing skills.
NOTE: This will fulfill the requirement of the essay on the Graduate School application; you do not have to complete both.
Computer Skills and Internet Access
All candidates must be proficient in the use of word-processing (e.g., Corel WordPerfect, Microsoft Word, etc.), spreadsheet software (e.g., Corel Quattro Pro, Microsoft Excel, etc.), and presentation software (e.g., Corel Presentations, Microsoft Powerpoint, etc.).
All candidates must have Internet access by the time they enter the program.
Quantitative, Management Accounting, and Financial Skills Assessment
All candidates who are not business undergraduate majors, or who cannot demonstrate solid quantitative, management accounting, and financial skills acquired from their managerial experience, will be asked to sit for an assessment of their statistical, accounting, finance, and economics knowledge.
Candidates who fall short will be asked to take foundation courses that will function as prerequisites for eventual admission.
Undergraduate Transcripts
All candidates' undergraduate academic performance will be considered and made part of the overall assessment.
A target GPA of 3.0 is the baseline for evaluation.
Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Exam (GRE)
The GMAT may be required of applicants based on their prior academic performance and/or academic major.
If the candidate has already taken the GRE, it may be substituted for the GMAT. A target score of 555 for the GMAT or 540 for the GRE is the baseline for evaluation.
The GMAT or GRE is not a litmus test for admission.
It is factored into the other admission requirements for an holistic assessment of each candidate.
Personal Interview
All candidates will interview with the program director of the Master of Management program.
The interview will be guided by a standardized interview protocol instrument to ensure that interviews are consistent from candidate to candidate.
