Janice Roccosalva '95
As principal of Villa Angela-Saint Joseph High School, Janice Roccosalva earned her bachelor's degree from Ursuline College in 1971, and then went back for her master's in education administration.
"I liked knowing I was being taught by the Ursulines because regardless of what class you were in, you knew you were getting the same values," Roccosalva said. "These are the women I take as my role models."
One of the classes that affected her the most addressed student attitudes and spirit as well as resolving classroom issues. "That material seems to keep coming back," she said.
She was honored last spring as one of the first recipients of the Distinguished Educator Award. Before giving her the award, Sr. Rosemary Hocevar, who has known her since she taught her algebra in high school, said Janice practices what she preaches, she walks the talk and has stayed her course, both in her teaching and administrative career.
