Head Women’s Soccer Coach Jason Kubbins announced that Madison Christian senior Leah Sweet
signed an NAIA letter of intent to play soccer at Ursuline College. Leah is a three year
letter-winner on the Madison Christian boy’s varsity soccer team and was named a co-captain her senior year. While a member of the Madison Christian Eagles, Leah helped her team win the
Athletic League of Private Schools league championship in 2004 and 2005. During her tenure with the Eagles the team also advanced as a finalist to the ACSI state tournament in 2004/2005. The
Eagles moved to the Mid-Ohio Christian Athletic League in 2006 and garnered third place in its
second season. Leah was named Honorable Mention MOCAL in 2007. She was also named to the MOCAL
All-Star team and the Central Ohio, Division III Boy’s All-Star team.
Leah’s club career began with the North Columbus Athletic Association’s Blast Soccer Club where she reached the Ohio South State Cup tournament semi-finals in 2001 and 2003. She later joined the NCSL Eagles, Upper Arlington, where her team won the Murray Cup championship in 2005. Currently Leah plays for Eric Griffin at Worthington United. As a stopper and fullback she has helped Worthington United reach the Orange Classic semi-finals in 2005, the Ohio South State Cup semi-finals in 2006 and 2007, and the Germantown Invitational finals in 2006. United was also named Buckeye League, Premier Elite Division in 2006.
“Leah is a very gifted and physical defender,” said Coach Kubbins. “Not only can she win the ball, but when she does win it she has the skill and vision to start the attack. She is comfortable with going forward which allows us to throw more at opposing defenses. I am looking forward to working with her and am excited about what she brings to our program.”
Leah is the daughter of Michael and Rebecca Sweet of Groveport, Ohio. She holds a 3.7 GPA and plans to major in Psychology.
