Ursuline threatened three times in game one before losing 2-1 to conference leader Walsh
University (9-0) in eleven innings. Stephanie Rajcan of Ursuline and Hartings of Walsh pitched
a scoreless duel for eight innings before Rajcan was relieved in the ninth. The pitching duel
continued for one more inning as reliever, Kelly Gilreath got the next five outs easily before
being beaten by a single and a Krystal Sherry 2 RBI homerun in the eleventh. The Arrows
attempted a comeback with Gilreath hitting a single and Danielle Colbath slamming her in on a
double to deep centerfield making the score 2-1. Danielle Bandza then hit a line drive to the
outfield which hit off of the glove of the centerfielder and went into the glove of Saunders
coming in for the backup from right field. Colbath, who left on the touch by the centerfielder, was thrown out before she could recover at second base ending the threat. “We’re back. I
thought it would take a year to rebuild this team but after today’s game it looks like we’re
getting there faster than expected. Today’s game is a turning point. The team has progressed
immensely just this past week. We’ve made some corrections, set some positions and have
corrected our mentality. I’m pleased with their competitiveness today, now we need to win some
ball games,” stated Coach Woodford after the game. Hastings got the win, Gilreath got the loss.

Krystal Sherry did a lot of damage to the Ursuline Arrows’ hopes of an upset today. Krystal
Sherry hit her second backbreaking homerun of the day in the third inning with two runners on
putting the Cavaliers up 4-0 in the third. The Arrows fought back as Difiore hit a double and
was sacrificed to third. Danielle Colbath singled her in while Elizabeth Shoda hit an RBI
triple to make the score 4-2. The Cavs scored one more run in the fourth when Schmidt was
walked and Sherry again hit an RBI, this time, a double. The Cavs quieted down in the fifth and sixth innings with no hits while the Arrows mustered three hits including a double by Meredith
Croce in the fifth. The game was called after the sixth inning due to darkness. Sherry got the
win, Gilreath got the loss.
