The Ursuline College softball program was started in the spring of 2002. In only four years of competition, the team has found its footing making the conference play-offs twice and playing in NAIA Regional competition.
The team competes as members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, the first intercollegiate sports organization to offer equal opportunities to all student-athletes. As a trailblazer, it voted black institutions into membership in 1953. In 1980, it was the first to offer intercollegiate athletics to both men and women. The NAIA is known for it's emphasis on character and academics. As a member of the NAIA, Ursuline offers academic scholarships based on merit, athletic scholarships and grants-in aid.
Ursuline is in the Northern Division of the American Mideast Conference, the largest NAIA conference in the country.
Already in it's brief history, the softball team has had two All Americans, several all conference players, two NAIA Daktronics Scholar Athlete awards, six pending NAIA Scholar Athletes and is listed thirteenth as a NFCA Top Academic Team in the NAIA.
The "Blue and Gold" Diamond Arrows practice and play several tournaments in the non-traditional fall ball season and play a full regular season schedule in the spring including a spring break trip. The team has attended spring training in Georgia, Florida and California in the past to prep for regular season play. The competitive level is high and the team conditions throughout the year. We also offer an optional summer team for those who want to play throughout part of the summer.
The team practices and plays on the beautiful, new Arrows Softball Field located on campus. A full staff of coaches direct both the Junior Varsity and Varsity teams.
The Ursuline Softball Program offers many programs to help our students succeed. Incoming freshmen take part in the freshmen softball life skills program which helps them with their transition into college, a professional career mentoring program is available to juniors and seniors, and developmental study tables are available for those who need them. The student success center on campus offers tutoring, internships, co-ops, etc. Our objective is to help our students reach their potential in all facets of their college life.
