Michael Badway joins Ursuline College Cross Country and Track & Field programs as the Head Coach where he will focus on recruiting and developing a full program. Badway received a B.S. from East Stroudsburg University and furthered his education by completing a master's degree program in 2005 from ESU. While pursuing his degree, Badway was an Assistant Coach for their Cross Country and Track & Field program from November 2003 to May 2005.
Michael was also the assistant coach for the Cross County and Track & Field programs at Monmouth University from June 2005 to June 2006. During his stay there he was a member of the winning coaching staff for the indoor and outdoor track and field conference championships.
Badway competed on the Warriors Cross Country and Track & Field teams and in his sophomore and senior campaigns he was selected as the recipient of the Coaches Award. This is "awarded to the athlete who has contributed the most to their respective team with their dedication, desire and overall effort".
In two out of his four years running cross country, Badway was a two-time regional qualifier. After his freshman campaign in 1999, Badway was named to the ECAC All-East Indoor Track squad.
Michael married his wife, Kari, in May 2006 and they reside in Mayfield Heights, OH.
Steve Smalley - Assistant Track and Field Coach
Steve Smalley begins his first year as the Assistant Coach of the Ursuline Arrows Women's Track & Field program. Coach Smalley brings more than 20 years experience in coaching and coach/player development to UC. He has coached Track & Field at many levels. During Smalley's high school coaching career he has received the honor of being named the Division I Ohio Heartland Conference "Coach of the Year" five times, coached teams to three OHSAA Division I District Titles, and has led several athletes to the OHSAA State meet including Multiple-time State Throws Champion and NCAA Division I Discus Champion Beth Mallory (Alabama). Smalley also developed and coached the Lane One Youth Track & Field program which produced many athletes that competed in the USATF National Championships.
Coach Smalley graduated from Ashland University with a Bachelors Degree in Art Education, and earned a Masters Degree from Ashland in Sport Education. He also serves as the assistant soccer coach for the Arrows. Smalley resides in Wadsworth, OH with his wife Christine and three children Candace, Clay, and Seth.
