Nursing Convocation/Pinning

Nursing Convocation:

Who should attend? Undergraduate students of the Breen School of Nursing who are earning their BSN degree. This includes graduates from December 2016 (degree conferral date of January 2017), May 2017, and August 2017 in the traditional program, Second Degree Accelerated Program, and RN-to-BSN Program.

What is it? Nursing Convocation is a ceremony for undergraduate students of the Breen School of Nursing who are earning their BSN degree. The ceremony is often referred to as the “pinning” ceremony because students will receive their Breen School of Nursing pins at this time. Graduates will be given the opportunity to choose one person who was of great support or importance in their nursing education to “pin” them at the event. Academic and clinical nursing awards will also be presented. Additionally, a student representative from each graduating class of nurses will be selected by their classmates to give an address at this event.

When is it? Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 6 p.m.; it should last approximately two hours.

Where is it? On the Ursuline College Campus at the Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity in the Ursuline Educational Center (commonly referred to as the Mother House)

Why should nursing graduates attend? This is a very meaningful ceremony for students, their families, and faculty and staff. The event allows students to thank those who have supported them through nursing school. Student speakers are elected by their peers and many awards are presented to students who have excelled in many different areas.

How do students and guests attend? ALL GUESTS WILL NEED A TICKET to attend; graduates and faculty/staff do not. Each student will receive a packet of 5 tickets labeled with their name and a form which MUST be filled out and returned to Mrs. Berts in the School of Nursing no later than May 2. Please turn forms in as soon as possible. We must have these forms in order to include the student in the program. Without this form, students will not be able to be seated with their classmates and  recognition will not be able to be given to the student’s pinner. We want everyone to be recognized appropriately, so students, please submit your 2016 RSVP & Pinning form to Mrs. Berts in Mullen 350-C by May 2 at the very latest.

Grads, please email ellen.berts@ursuline.edu with an address if you would like your tickets and form mailed to you.

Please direct questions to the Nursing Department.
