Ensemble Theatre’s production of “Thurgood”

January 26, 2018

Performance about civil right trailblazer is free and open to public

Ursuline College will commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with Ensemble Theatre’s production of “Thurgood,” a one-personimage of Thurgood Marshall theatrical performance exploring the accomplishments of Thurgood Marshall, the nation’s first African American Supreme Court justice, on Friday, January 26, from 7 to 9pm in Daley Hall.

In the Cleveland Jewish News, Bob Abelman wrote that actor Greg White “depicts Thurgood from the inside out, bringing to the surface his energy, passion and humor... The playwright takes us from the character-building debates young Thurgood’s father led at the dinner table, to Thurgood’s years traveling across the South and winning lawsuit after lawsuit, to his breaking down the ‘separate but equal’ laws as chief counsel for the NAACP, to laying the legal groundwork for the nation’s civil-rights movement, to his placement on the Supreme Court, to the day of his retirement two years before his death.”

Ursuline’s Assistant Dean for Diversity Kristie Williams, Ph.D., said, “We are very pleased to be able to partner with Ensemble Theater and present this moving performance to the Ursuline community and the public. ‘Thurgood’ promises to be informative and inspirational. I encourage alumnae and friends to join us.”

Celeste Cosentino, Ensemble's executive artistic director, said, "Ensemble Theatre is very excited to partner with Ursuline College. We hope that "Thurgood" is the first of many collaborations in the future."

Admission is free but please RSVP here.
