7 PM Executive Caterers at Landerhaven Cleveland, Ohio
Shannon Galpin, Executive Director of Mountain to Mountain, will be the featured speaker at Ursuline College Alumnae Event, Breaking Barriers.
Mountain to Mountain was founded by Shannon Galpin in the fall of 2007. Inspired by Greg Mortenson's work promoting peace through education in remote villages of Pakistan and Afghanistan, Galpin decided to stop wishing and start doing. Mountain to Mountain is a non-profit organization focused on creating opportunity through education and job creation for women and girls at risk in Afghanistan. It connects communities and cultures so that the focus is not only on creating opportunity but also in bridging mountain communities on both sides of the equation. Galpin has appeared on Dateline NBC and The Today Show. For more information visit www.mountain2mountain.com
Shannon Galpin has said: "Education for women and girls in countries like Afghanistan is the first step towards empowerment. When these girls are given the tools not just to read and write, but to critically think, to understand political and social issues around the world, they have the ability to be heard, to be respected, and to become the catalysts for change within their own country. This will do more for women's rights, violence against women and children, and economic growth than anything else we can do."
In addition to the evening event, Shannon Galpin will also be on Ursuline's campus during the day to give a talk to area high school girls about her experiences and the importance of empowering women to be leaders.
