Mission Then and Now
Looking to the future, adapting to meet current need and educating women are qualities that have been part of the Ursuline tradition for centuries.
In 1871 Mother Mary of the Annunciation Beaumont brought the Ursuline tradition from France, establishing Ursuline as the first women's college chartered in Ohio.
Now, as in the past, values, voice and vision form the foundation on which students enrich their lives, nurture families and influence the community.
Catholic tradition, strong students, families, and communities are the cornerstones of Ursuline College's campaign "Building on... Values, Voice and Vision." This $21 million capital and endowment campaign aims at enhancing Ursuline's ability to deliver academic excellence in state-of-the-art facilities, while increasing endowment to secure Ursuline's future.
Vision for the Future
Enrollment continues to increase at Ursuline College.
Campus activities and sports programs are on the rise.
A diverse student population (26 percent minority) reflects the demographics of our region.
Seventy-five percent of Ursuline graduates remain in Northeast Ohio, further enhancing the College's increasingly prestigious reputation in the community.
In order to strengthen its position, Ursuline must secure funding for the new residence hall, classroom building and a larger gathering space. Campaign dollars will also increase the endowment for scholarships, building renovations, establishment of faculty chairs and improvements to the College's signature academic programs, such as nursing, education, social work, business and the sciences.
Construction/Renovation- New Residence Hall: Existing student housing does not meet the needs of a growing campus. A new 72-bed, suite-style residence hall provides additional living space for today's students
- Center For Creative and Healing Arts and Sciences: Today 1,490 students populate a campus built for 1,000. A new academic building featuring state-of-the-art classrooms, laboratories, and a large gathering space will support future growth.
- Renovation and Repair: Most Ursuline campus buildings were completed in the mid-sixties and are in need of upgrades. This is especially true for the Dauby Science Center.
- Scholarships: Financial support for students is among the College's highest priorities. With more than 80 percent of Ursuline students receiving financial aid, endowed scholarships will support deserving students who desire an Ursuline education.
- Faculty Chairs: Endowed chairs will enrich the teaching and learning experience by allowing more faculty development and research opportunities.
- Academic Chairs: Endowing the following schools will provide funding for program enhancement and curriculum development, as well as faculty and student leadership development.
The priorities of "Building On... Valuess. Voice. Vision." aim to enhance the total experience of learning and living at Ursuline. You can play a leadership role in making these priorities a reality. Help us to ensure that Ursuline's core values are preserved for generations to come.
