Reference and Instruction Librarian

The Library announces a search for a Reference and Instruction Librarian to provide
professional Reference Desk coverage and bibliographic instruction on an informal and formal
basis.
Major responsibilities include providing reference service by assisting and instructing patrons in locating and evaluating a variety of print and non-print information resources; preparing customized instruction sessions for scheduled classes; preparing printed and online bibliographic instruction (handouts, tutorials, bibliographies); and preparing and maintaining Reference Desk handbook and other publications. Includes some evening and weekend hours.
Qualifications include Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program; familiarity with technologies and software used in a library setting; experience in database searching; experience in teaching or presentations; experience working within a multicultural setting; and a self starter able to multi-task and work calmly under pressure with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Preferred qualifications include experience with reference work in an academic library; familiarity with life and health sciences literature; and experience in designing on-line tutorials or other resources.

Coordinator of Experiential Education

Interacts primarily with junior and senior students of the college to assist them with finding
the internship or cooperative education opportunity most aligned with their educational and
career goals. This position serves as the link between the initial contact with first-year
students by the Coordinator of Career Development and the formal job search process undertaken
by students completing their course of study. This position reports directly to the Director of Counseling and Career Services.
Additional responsibilities include coordinating all aspects of the experiential education program from the first meeting with students to the completion of the internship or co-op experience; working collaboratively with faculty to determine the proper internship or co-op placement within the student’s academic program; assisting in developing policies and procedures for students, faculty and employers; actively recruit prospective employers, maintaining relationships with them and referring students in accordance with the parameters of the internship description and academic requirements; assisting in developing and implementing a comprehensive marketing plan for the Experiential Education program; creating educational materials and using technology to provide students with information on experiential education opportunities, resume development, interviewing skills, dress for success, etc; providing monthly, semester and yearly reports on program statistics (number of opportunities available to students, the number of students actively pursuing an internship or co-op, the number of student resumes on file, etc.); visiting and assessing worksites.
Qualifications include bachelor’s degree in a business or otherwise relevant field (master’s preferred) or a combination of education and experience within a collegiate experiential education program; up to 3 years experience in higher education; ability to work in a multicultural environment; strong communication skills; ability to think creatively, market ideas and work collaboratively within the general college community; computer competency required – database management and the ability to generate reports.

Technical Services Librarian

Responsible for all copy-cataloging and original cataloging of added materials; provide patrons in-depth subject assistance, bibliographic instruction, and other reference services; assist in developing and maintaining collections; act as subject liaison as assigned. Reports to Head of Bibliographic Services.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Download and export available bibliographic records from OCLC for all print and non-print materials added to the collection, verifying accuracy of LC classification and subject and descriptive cataloging
- Download bibliographic record and table of contents files from OhioLINK as necessary.
- Perform original cataloging of all materials formats; assign and verify classification, subject headings, and name headings, ensuring quality control using online systems, and submitting original bibliographic records to OCLC Worldcat; purge system of outdated materials and documentation; update online catalog to reflect current holdings by call number, title, and subject.
- Maintain and update catalog to reflect current holdings; barcode and produce labels for added materials; delete withdrawn materials; edit bibliographic and item records as necessary.
- Maintain pro-active liaison relationships with assigned academic departments by helping develop and weed those areas in the collection, providing special bibliographic guides and advice, teaching special sessions as requested, and assisting with accreditation visits as appropriate.
The successful candidate will possess a Master’s degree in Library Science, previous relevant experience in an academic library, the ability to multi-task and work within a diverse academic community, and the ability to work some evenings and weekend hours. Cataloging experience preferred.
