The 80's and 90's

Pen & Paper Students who selected creative writing from these more recent decades noticed that topics had a broader range and seemed more relevant. One student observed:

"I find it very similar to the writing of my years at Ursuline so far. However, there were certain ideas that were written about more than others such as love, nature, and questioning oneself. I found these topics to be the most interesting and provoking. They remind me of my own writing in which I focus upon many of the same ideas.

Although the poems were written nearly twenty years apart from each other, the common theme of being lost or tying to find one’s way is expressed. The reader can compare the two poems, and see that they are both free verse, and flow similarly with the same type of language and scheme.

I’ve learned that there are many people in the world who express themselves through writing. Poetry can convey many messages whether they deal with love, the beauty of nature, or even the common path to finding oneself."
