The Media Center’s collection, equipment and services are here to primarily provide support to the faculty, though some items have been made available to students and members of the OhioLINK community. The collection is a compilation of over 7000 items, including VHS and DVD formats, audio cassettes, CD-ROM’s, etc. Search the library catalog, Oracle, to find the Media Center holdings. The Media Center also holds an extensive slide collection including works of art, American history, and fashion design. The Media Center staff or a reference librarian can help you locate the material you need for your class.
The Media Center provides a number of services to faculty and students.
Faculty
Media Reserve Program
This service allows faculty to place items on reserve for their students to use at a later time. Items placed on reserve should be associated with a specific assignment, as only students from your course may use the material. We ask that you allow us at least 24 hours to process your material. Students will need to know the course name or number, instructor’s name, and the title of the material when making a request. The material will need to be used at one of the Media Center viewing stations, or one of the other viewing stations available in the library. The material will be checked out for 4 hours, unless you request that students be permitted to take it out for a longer time period. For questions please call 440-646-8182.
Media Hold Program
This service allows faculty to hold material for an upcoming class. Faculty may call the Media Center, 440-646-8182, or email mediarequests@ursuline.edu with a list of videos for use on a specific day. The Media Center staff will be sure the material is pulled and ready on your requested pick-up date. If it is an item that is used often, the Media Center staff will work with all parties to be sure everyone is able to use the material at or around the requested time. We recommend faculty contact us at the beginning of the semester with a list of items and dates those items will be needed. This will allow us to provide the best service. Please contact the Media Center if you have any questions.
Equipment Setup/Delivery
This service allows faculty to request equipment for upcoming classes. The Media Center has a number of pieces of equipment available for use in your courses including VHS/DVD players, monitors, camcorders, laptops (for off-campus use only), microphones, etc. Contact the Media Center at 440-646-8182 or 440-646-6125 or email mediarequests@ursuline.edu to discuss your equipment needs with a staff member. Please request your equipment at least one week in advance of your class, as we may not be able to accommodate last minute requests.
If you need a computer/laptop setup for on campus use or if you are having problems with a computer or equipment connected to the computer in your classroom, please contact Computer and Information Services at 440-449-4624 for assistance or make an online request.
Students
VHS/DVD Conversion
Some courses require students to submit a copy of a presentation in DVD format. The Media Center is happy to do this if the original format is in VHS or DVD. If the recording is stored on a digital camera we will need to use the camera and all necessary cords/wires to make the conversion. Bring the presentation to the Media Center with a blank DVD-R and allow us 24 hours to convert the presentation.
Media Center Collection
The collection found within the Media Center has a primary purpose of supporting faculty in instruction. We have opened many items to the public including students and members of the OhioLINK community. These items may be checked out and used off campus. A member of the Media Center staff or a reference librarian can help you determine if items may be used outside the library. If an item is not permitted for use outside the library, students are welcome to use the material in the Media Center or one of the various stations available in the library. If a student needs to use an item for a class presentation, and can not take it outside the library, the student may obtain a permission form from the Media Center, ask the course instructor to complete it, and return it to the Media Center. The item will then be permitted to be checked out by the student for the time designated by the instructor on the permission form.
