Ursuline College Invites the Public to View Latest Designer Fashions at Their Spring Student Fashion Show April 27

Ursuline College will host Innovations ’08 fashion show on Sunday, April 27, 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM at the College’s Matthew J. O’Brien Athletic Center, 2550 Lander Rd, Pepper Pike. The annual event, which is open to the public, features clothing designed by students and will include more than 50 original creations for women and children.
“It’s always exciting to watch our fashion design students unveil their original collections,” said Dr. Constance Korosec, Ursuline’s fashion design and merchandising chair. “The goal is to provide students with real world design experience by providing an exciting forum in which they can showcase their creativity.”
“Ravishing Rose,” “Pretty Woman” and “Glam Gal” are some of the collection titles featured in the show. Attendees will view a range of women’s wear designs from casual and flirty dresses to elegant gowns embellished with ostrich feathers. A collection of children’s wear in rainbow colors will also be showcased.
Senior Rachele Divelbliss of Mayfield Heights said her “Ravishing Rose” line was inspired by the beauty of the female form. “My designs are rather simple with well-draped fabric that I like to combine with lavish details, like black Chantilly lace, dazzling sequins and gems,” said Divelbliss, who commented that it’s all about creating a unique ambiance of beauty and allure.”
Cleveland Heights senior Hannah Welsch’s “Pretty Woman” collection is designed specifically for the stylishly classy woman who is smart and self-confident. “This line of dresses offers quality couture garments that really make a woman stand out in a crowd.” Welsch’s use of brocades and cotton fabrics are sure to be a crowd pleaser.
The “Glam Gal” collection by senior Anne-Marie Gurko of Bedford is for the young career woman seeking to move-up the corporate ladder. “I view her as a hard working woman who enjoys attending professional social gatherings,” said Gurko. “Professional women need to have a smart selection of evening dresses handy at all times.”
During the program, Mayfield Heights resident Nicole Visconsi Mawby will be recognized for outstanding service and generosity to the College’s Fashion Design and Merchandising Department. Mawby, a professional ballroom dancer, donated 25 of her own designer label ball gowns to Ursuline’s Historic Costume Study Collection. The ball gowns will be exhibited during the show.
Ursuline’s fashion design students participate in study trips throughout major US cities and have the option of attending New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology during their junior year. They also have hands-on access to the College’s costume collection that includes more than 3,500 pieces of 20th century American apparel and accessories.
Fashion show admission costs are $10 for adults, $5 for students and no charge for children ten and under. Tickets can be purchased at the door. For more information, call 440-646-8142.
