Ursuline Professor to Keynote Dr. King Memorial Luncheon
On Monday, January 21, 2013, the City of Rocky Mount, North Carolina will present Ursuline College Visiting Professor in Constitutional Law and CNN Legal Analyst Avery Friedman as its Keynote Speaker celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Dr. Martin Luther King Unity Breakfast at the Dunn Center for the Performing Arts of North Carolina Wesleyan College.
Avery Friedman, CNN Saturday’s Legal Analyst for the past twelve years, has a weekly audience of over 3,000,000 viewers each weekend and joins Jesse Owens, Maya Angelou and Carl Stokes as an inductee in the Ohio Civil Rights Hall of Fame. The Wall Street Journal calls him a “walking reference source” on civil rights law. He has been recognized in TIME, The New York Times and USA Today as a nationally distinguished civil rights lawyer and law professor. The NAACP has called him a “true freedom fighter” and “an artist in the courtroom.”
Friedman has lectured on federal civil rights law at over three dozen major law schools including Stanford, Duke, Berkeley, Michigan, North Carolina, Tulane and the University of Texas. He has appeared by invitation as an expert on civil and constitutional rights by both the U.S. Senate and House subcommittees.
This 25th anniversary celebration brings Avery Friedman to Rocky Mount concurrently celebrating the Presidential Inauguration in Washington later that day. The Unity Breakfast has previously featured renowned speakers including Dr. Alveda King, Naomi Tutu, St. Augustine College President Prezell Robinson and UNC Chapel Hill Chancellor Michael Hooker.
