Event Sponsored by Ursuline and CBC Magazine
February 07, 2012
Huffington Post co-founder Arianna Huffington will make her first Cleveland-area speaking engagement April 25 at the inaugural Female Entrepreneur Summit.
The conference, presented by Cleveland Business Connects magazine and Ursuline College, will feature eight prominent businesswomen. Marked by morning and afternoon sessions, the event is scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 700 Beta Banquet and Conference Center in Mayfield Village.
Huffington will headline the summit, presenting the keynote speech from noon to 1:30 p.m. She will speak to her role as a female entrepreneur, highlighted by her career with the Huffington Post, the online news site that she launched in May 2005. An audience question/answer session will follow the presentation, Huffington’s first in Northeast Ohio, according to her lecture agency, the Washington Speakers Bureau.
“We’re ecstatic about bringing Arianna Huffington to Cleveland for our inaugural Female Entrepreneur Summit,” CBC Publisher Renee DeLuca Dolan said. “We’re certain her keynote speech will inspire all of the attendees as well as carry her message of ‘bringing people together who can innovate, who care, and who can bring best practices together to create systematic and sustainable business models to benefit us all locally, regionally, and internationally.’ These were words I heard her state in a recent interview, and I thought, ‘Wow, she gets it.’ I personally can’t wait to meet her.”
Huffington, in addition to being the president and editor-in-chief of Huffington Post Media Group, is a nationally syndicated columnist and the author of 13 books. Time magazine named her one of its 100 most influential people in 2006 and 2011. She was declared by Financial Times to be one of the 50 people who shaped the last decade, and she is one of the most influential women in the media, according to Forbes.
Huffington is not the only prominent female entrepreneur in the summit lineup. The morning session will consist of presentations by:
- Lee Ann Howard, chief executive office, Howard and O’Brien Associates
- Dawn Hanson, president, The Fairmount Group
- Heather R. Ettinger, managing partner, Fairport Asset Management
- Candace Klein, founder, Bad Girl Ventures
Following Huffington’s presentation, the afternoon session will feature:
- Lynn-Ann Gries, chief investment officer, JumpStart
- Heather Kramer, business development manager and social media strategist, Cyrid Media
- Barbara J. Danforth, senior vice president, Ratliff-Taylor CPI Partner
“Our mission with the Female Entrepreneur Summit is to educate and connect mid-level female entrepreneurs as they strive to escalate their businesses through planning and strategic processes,” DeLuca Dolan says. “They will discover how B2B and B2C brands are using social media to generate return on investment through sales, marketing, customer service, and innovative engagement techniques; how to strategically build leadership teams, mentoring networks, and sustainable advisory boards; how to structure a successful branding/marketing campaign; and how to fund for growth, from boot strapping to venture capital opportunities.
“This will be a day of education, networking, and inspiration for women in business to get to know their businesses, not only in Cleveland but also regionally. With Arianna Huffington as our keynote speaker, we’re expecting to draw more than 300 women to the summit from around the state and regionally.”
