Founded
Ursuline College was founded by the Ursuline Sisters of Cleveland in 1871 by Mother Mary of the Annunciation Beaumont who recognized the need for an institution of higher learning for women. Ursuline College was the first women's college to be chartered in Ohio and one of the first in the United States.
Mission Statement
The mission of Ursuline College is to offer undergraduate and graduate education within a Catholic tradition marked by the Ursuline heritage of educating women. Emphasizing academic excellence, the values-based curricula provide the foundation for liberal arts and professional programs. Respecting a diverse student population, Ursuline offers varied approaches to learning for the growth of the whole person. Ursuline College prepares students for further education, careers, leadership, and service to society while encouraging the search for wisdom.
Our Campus
Located on a beautiful, spacious campus 13 miles east of Cleveland in Pepper Pike, Ohio, we're easily accessible, close to major highways. Our campus features 12 buildings including the new Bishop Anthony M. Pilla Learning Center; the Matthew J. O'Brien recreation complex; The Florence O'Donnell Wasmer Gallery for professional and student art exhibits; the Ralph M. Besse Library, two residence halls.
Student Body
Our student body, including undergraduate and graduate students, is approximately 1400. Although we primarily educate women, 9% of our undergraduate student population are men. 27% of our undergraduate students represent a variety of minority groups.
Faculty
Ursuline College employs qualified full-time and adjunct faculty, most of whom have earned doctorates or other terminal degrees in their fields of study. All of our faculty members are here because they love to teach; they are scholars, but they are also committed to student learning. Small class sizes enable students to get to know their professors well, and they can count on their instructors to guide and challenge them during their time at Ursuline.
Academics
Ursuline College offers more than 30 undergraduate and 7 graduate programs. We also offer the opportunity to finish an undergraduate business degree and legal assistant's degree in an accelerated format. Internships, cooperative education, and mentoring opportunities are available to prepare students for their careers. A Program for Students with Learning Disabilities as well as a Program for Academic Success and tutorial assistance is administered through Academic Support and Disabilities Services.
Tuition
Ursuline College remains one of the most competitively priced private colleges in Ohio. Students at Ursuline are charged by credit hour, not a flat rate fee for full-time attendance. On average, undergraduate students must take 32 credits per year to graduate in four years. The cost for the 32 credits would be $22,304.
Room and Meals
Double occupancy rooms for one year are $3,414. Single occupancy rooms for one year are $5,394. Our 15-meals/week plan is $3,270 per year.
Athletics
The Ursuline Arrows have 8 NAIA Intercollegiate athletic teams that compete in the American Mideast Conference; Volleyball, Soccer, Golf, Basketball, Softball, Tennis, Track and Cross Country.
