Think, reason, communicate, repeat.
The Philosophy program emphasizes ethics and ethical decision making, themes that regularly emerge when employers are asked what skills they value most in new hires. Because the Philosophy program is designed to help you seek clarity, depth of thought, critical thinking skills, and effective communication, it’s a perfect candidate for a double major. Most Ursuline Philosophy majors pursue this program to augment their effectiveness in another major or field, such as Legal Studies and Business Management.
The search for understanding of ourselves, our relationships, and our communities, never grows old. The discipline of Philosophy will help you become a logical thinker. Ask a group of Ursuline grads about their favorite classes, and you’ll hear course titles like Bioethics, Animals and Ethics, and Philosophy of Women – all Philosophy courses.
A major in philosophy is the basic preparation for graduate studies, which could lead to a career in teaching. Traditionally, philosophy has been one of the very best preparations for law school. A major or minor in philosophy also critically and competently prepares students for professional programs such as medicine, business, the social sciences, theology, and ministry.
