    • NR 633 - Foundations of Palliative Care

      Students have an opportunity to analyze personal attitudes toward progressive illness, dying and death and how these can influence the care of terminally ill people and their families. Professional boundaries and personal wellness is emphasized, ethical issues are explored in relation to treatment decisions and quality of life. This course integrates pathophysiology, pharmacology, psychosocial issues and spirituality in the assessment and management of symptoms in the person with a terminal illness. Loss, grief, and bereavement are also explored as they relate to the terminally ill person and the family. Communication and counseling techniques are woven throughout this course. Current research in palliative care is analyzed and applied in the clinical setting. The student
