Ursuline’s 16-month superintendent licensure program is designed to prepare you, as a working school administrator, for leadership roles in central office administration. With a superintendent license, you may become a:

    • Superintendent
    • Assistant superintendent
    • Director of curriculum and instruction
    • Other leadership role in a school district

The program covers the mission and philosophy of Ohio public, parochial, and private education. You’ll learn in a cohort of principals or assistant principals from across the region, and build great connections in the process.

How to Become a Superintendent: For Principal's License Holders

After completing a Master of Arts in Educational Administration degree and securing a principal’s license, you may pursue your superintendent license by completing an additional 12 credit hours. You must have covered all of the courses/topics outlined in Ursuline’s Principal Licensure program; if not, you may be required to complete additional courses.

    Superintendent License Courses

    • The first course in the Superintendent Licensure program focuses on leadership; strategic planning; and relationships, especially organizational relationships with a superintendent’s cabinet and school board.
    • The second course focuses on the business operations of the school district, especially finance, levies, and labor negotiations.
    • The third course focuses on students, so that you’ll never forget the importance of meeting their needs.
    • The fourth course is a six-month internship experience.

The Education programs at Ursuline College are accredited through the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). The programs are also approved by the Chancellor of the Oho Department of Higher Education. The Superintendent licensure program prepares high-impact education professionals to become school district executive leaders.
