Undergraduate Fashion Merchandising Degree Program Laci Gross

I was able to get a job that I love and that is also in my field so quickly after college.

    Laci Gross

Why did you choose Ursuline College?

Ursuline was my first choice because of its focus on women, the fashion merchandising major, faith-based background, small classes/campus, proximity to home, and the friendliness of everyone I met. I felt welcomed and wanted during every campus visit, thanks to the incredible people in admissions. I saw that Ursuline was the place where I could be comfortable yet still be pushed to grow and try new things. A palpable familiarity runs strong through Ursuline as you are able to easily develop true relationships with professors and staff who genuinely want you to succeed and know you as an individual. I felt seen at Ursuline, and that's all that mattered to me.

What did you like best about the Fashion program?

All of my success would not be without the wonderful women of Ursuline who helped me along the way. I miss being there all the time.

How has your Fashion degree helped you professionally?

Shortly after graduating, I started a seamstress position at our local alteration shop, Steubenville Tailorings and Alterations. By July, I was able to go to New York City for the first time for a business trip, meeting highly respected tailors in the industry both nationally and internationally. That was really exciting!

I do basic alterations on everyday clothes and more complicated alterations on formal and wedding gowns. I'm fortunate I was able to get a job that I love and that is also in my field so quickly after college. I use my fashion education every day, which I am so thankful for. I am also learning more and more each day about garment construction (and reconstruction).

Were you surprised to learn that your article about Ursuline’s fashion collection was published in a national textile and fashion journal?

I never would have thought an interview assignment for my Creative Non-Fiction class would end up being published. I am thankful that Dr. Korosec thought so highly of it and was willing to submit it to the journal. I was able to represent the wonderful fashion program at Ursuline in a nationally recognized journal while also making my English professors proud! I always enjoyed the rare moments when I was able to combine a couple of my favorite subjects.
