Dr. McVay teaches courses on the Caribbean, China, Europe, and the Middle East as well as in the core curriculum. She has published works on women’s rights in twentieth century India and Indonesia, dueling among seventeenth century Dutch soldiers, and women’s contributions to world history since 1500. Her current research focuses on the history of slavery and slave revolts in 18th century Dutch Guiana. Using original sources from rare book and archival collections, her students practice digging up evidence to find the real story of the past.
