Instructional Designer

Summary
The Instructional Designer will provide faculty with course design and curriculum development support for the creation of effective and engaging learning environments that are informed by desired learning outcomes. The role involves consulting with faculty from diverse disciplines to identify course goals, student learning objectives, and applicable evidence-based instructional strategies. The Instructional Designer will provide professional development on the use of current evidence-based instructional practices in the face-to-face, blended, and online environments. This is a full-time, 12 month position, reporting to the Director of Library and Academic Support Services.
Responsibilities
- Work with faculty on the development of online, blended, and face-to-face instruction and ensure course quality through the appropriate blend of pedagogy and technology based on learning theory and instructional design practices.
- Provide support and serve as a resource to the faculty on the design, development, evaluation, and revision of learning outcomes, course modality, high-impact learning practices, Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and accessibility issues, copyright, and effective assessment strategies.
- Collaborate with faculty and colleagues to create training on current evidence-based instructional strategies delivered through appropriate methods.
- Coordinate with the Director of Compliance to maintain knowledge of current federal and state laws, regulations, and best practices pertaining to online learning, including but not limited to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy (FERPA) and will write and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with those laws, regulations, and guidelines as they pertain to the learning management system.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, or a related degree with three (3) years’ experience required; or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Master’s preferred.
- Experience in teaching and/or providing professional development and training to faculty and staff is required.
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of learning management systems, instructional technologies, and on-line course development is required.
- Previous experience in instructional design and Quality Matters evaluation is strongly preferred.
- Excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills required.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively and collegially with faculty, administrators, students, and colleagues are required.
- Must be available to work a non-standard schedule (i.e., some evenings and weekends) to fulfill assigned duties and responsibilities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, demonstrated working experience in an inclusive climate, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a team environment and prioritize workloads.
