Senior Named Social Work Student of the Year.

    March 12, 2015

Euclid resident and Ursuline College Student Receives Top Social Work Award

Ursuline College is proud to announce that the Ohio Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, Cleveland- Region 3 named Ursuline College senior, Monique Primm, the recipient of the 2015 Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) Student of the Year Award. Primm, a Euclid resident, is currently a senior social work major. She will be honored at the 2015 Cuyahoga County Conference on Social Welfare on Friday, March 27 at Cleveland State University.

Primm was nominated and selected for this award by local social workers who recognize her as an outstanding member of the Cleveland community. In addition to completing her social work degree this May, Primm advocates for at-risk-youth in the greater Cleveland community by advising them to make healthy decisions and to further their education.

“As a Social Work student at Ursuline College, I have learned to take responsibility. In taking on this role, I am determined to achieve academic excellence. Ursuline has inspired me to fight for justice and has invoked spirituality within me - a necessary tool to work with a diversified community. I have also gained the knowledge to work collaboratively in any situation,” said Primm.

“I have seen Monique build on her own core values and become an outstanding entry-level social work professional. At Ursuline, she has been able to address the competencies identified by the Council on Social Work Education and integrate them with the mission and values of Ursuline College in order to serve the greater Cleveland community. Her success is a hallmark of our social work program,” said Professor and Co-Director of the Social Work Program, Sr. Kathleen Cooney, OSU, Ph.D., LSW.

“Being selected as the BSW student of the year for region 3 means that I have demonstrated the skills, knowledge, and persistence to be a change agent in society and I am honored that the Directors of the Social Work Program at Ursuline recommended me for this award.”
