Ursuline College softball transfer Rosie Lyard was selected to participate as part of Team France in the Surrey 2016 WBSC XV Women's World Softball Championships that will take place July 15-24 in Surrey, BC, Canada. Lyard, who will start her academic and athletic career at Ursuline this fall, played the last two seasons at Eastern Florida State College. She was born in France and carries dual citizenship which allowed her the opportunity to be selected as part of Team France. They will play on Sunday against Japan, which defeated the United States 2-1 earlier this summer.
Lyard will be the youngest member of the team made up of mostly 26-27 year olds from France.
Team France will be coached by Celine Lassaigne who is regarded as one of the best softball players in France over the last decade. Earlier this summer Lyard participated in the Torneo della Repubblica in Italy where she competed against the national teams from Italy and Puerto Rico as well as other local teams. In the tournament she hit .273 and drove in a pair of runs. Lyard and Team France will take on Japan on Sunday, July 17 at 5:30 PM and the event will be streamed live at www.surrey2016.com.
