On Friday, Jan. 13, the Florence O’Donnell Wasmer Gallery at Ursuline College opens “Women in Reverie: Painting Women Through the Decades,” a solo exhibition of works by internationally recognized portrait artist Tricia Kaman who paints from life and captures mood, intensity and humanity in her subjects. The exhibition opens with a free public reception from 5:00-8:00 p.m. in the gallery.
“As a portrait and figurative painter, I've worked with live models for 40 years, painting women in quiet repose and seeking to capture that sacred moment of reflection and meditation,” Kaman said. “In the show, ‘Women in Reverie,’ viewers are invited to explore the mystery and solace of a woman's inner world.”
The opening reception from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Jan. 13 will feature refreshments and live music by Tom Scott. The exhibition will be on view through Feb. 17.
On Tuesday, Jan. 31, surrounded by this exhibition of her portraits, Kaman will present a free gallery talk from 11:00 a.m. until noon. Then, from 1:00-4:00pm she will lead a portrait painting workshop with a live model. Participants will “learn how to see in a simple way, using light, shade and atmosphere to develop the human form,” Kaman said. She will demonstrate and give individual critiques. The workshop cost of $60 includes all supplies. Registration is required at ursuline.edu/portrait_workshop.
Wasmer Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, 12–5pm; Saturday and Sunday, 1:30–4:30pm. The gallery is closed on Mondays. Ursuline College is located at 2550 Lander Road in Pepper Pike, 13 miles east of Cleveland. The Wasmer Gallery is adjacent to the Fritzsche Building at the western edge of the campus. The front and patio entrances are wheelchair-accessible, with free parking available in the adjacent parking lot.
