Get to know our faculty, staff and students. Five Questions With is a series of occasional Q+As highlighting members of the Ursuline College community, starting with new faculty members.
Tell us about yourself.
I am originally from Del Rio, Texas. I attended Texas A&M University Kingsville, where I earned a BM in music education and performance. As a student, I had the opportunity to work with and conduct concerts for all the major ensembles on campus. I was also a member of The Pride of South Texas Marching Band, a 300 plus member group and the largest in South Texas, as well as a member of the school's pep band and tailgate band. After graduation, I pursued my master’s in Vocal Performance at The Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM).
Tell us about a professional (or other) accomplishment of which you are most proud.
I have had many memorable performance opportunities since moving to Cleveland. I have performed with local opera companies such as The Cleveland Opera and Cleveland Opera Theater, along with opera performances at CIM. I am also a member of The Cleveland Orchestra Chorus, with which I have performed in the recent production of The Cunning Little Vixen and as a soloist in Bach's St. John Passion, singing the role of Peter.
What drew you to Ursuline College?
Though I thoroughly enjoyed my time at CIM, I missed the band world. Being from Texas, marching bands and football are a big deal. So that's what ultimately drew me to Ursuline. I saw a chance to add instrumental music and band back into my life with Ursuline’s very first pep band!
What are you most excited about in this year at Ursuline and/or what new ideas or initiatives are you looking forward to implementing?
I am most excited to start working with the students. I am looking forward to our first rehearsal and having everybody play together for the first time and play at our first game! It will be great to see the program grow.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself.
I played trumpet and sang in a Mariachi Band throughout high school and college.
