Students present distinctive, fun designs in Innovations ’18 fashion show April 29

    April 23, 2018

Ursuline College’s students of fashion design and fashion merchandising will present their original creations to the community at Innovations ’18, the annual fashion show, on Sunday, April 29, at 1:00 p.m. in the College’s Sister Diana Stano Athletic Center at 2550 Lander Road in Pepper Pike. The event, which is open to the public, starts with a Spring Market Boutique opening at 11:30am.

Innovations ’18 will feature approximately 50 original designs produced by Ursuline students over the past academic year. Fashion merchandising majors produce the show, covering every aspect of the fashion show experience.

Seniors Anna Schumm, Paloma DeFreeze and Hannah Barucky will each present a “transitional” garment, one ensemble that will transition into a different ensemble on stage.

In addition to student creations, Innovations ’18 will include three scenes from the College’s Historic Costume Study Collection, which includes nearly 4,000 pieces of 20th century American apparel and accessories. The collection is curated by Fashion Department Chair Constance Korosec, Ph.D.

Commentator for Innovations ’18 will be Kristen Mascha Jufko, a 2010 Ursuline graduate and current merchandise buyer at the Cleveland Indians.

Students in Ursuline’s fashion design and fashion merchandising programs prepare for careers in the fashion industry through rigorous course work in design and merchandising, culminating in this senior fashion show. The College’s fashion students have the option of attending New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) during their junior year. They also have hands-on access to the Historic Costume Study Collection.

Fashion show admission costs are $15 for adults, $5 for students and no charge for children ten and under. Tickets will be available for purchase at the door only. Proceeds support Ursuline College Fashion Scholarships. For more information, call 440 646 8142.

Brief biographies of Ursuline’s three graduating senior fashion students

    Anna Schumm
    Collection: "See You Again"
Anna Schumm, a fashion merchandising and design major, she comes to Ursuline from Findlay, Ohio. “See You Again” is the spring clothing line for "RAZI Custom Designs," her up-and-coming business. Schumm has always enjoyed creating effortless everyday pieces that can transition easily for a variety of occasions. This collection was created for the young professional navigating the social scene on a limited budget. Each design is intended to transition into multiple looks to provide versatility. Items in this resort wear collection feature rich shades of blue alongside watercolor printed organic cotton.

    Paloma DeFreeze
    Collection: "Rosa Botanica"
Paloma DeFreeze is a fashion design major. Her collection, "Rosa Botanica," is inspired by Dolce & Gabbana's Spring '18 RTW collection, with a dreamy Mediterranean design aesthetic that exuberates a woman's boldness and confidence. DeFreeze’s goal as a contemporary designer is to create a tailored silhouette that redefines a woman's body shape, that ensures pure femininity with a pop of color and bold patterns.

    Hannah Barucky
    Collection: “Everyday Brave”
Fashion design major Hannah Barucky is going into costuming for TV and film after graduation. With the support and incredible passion of Fashion Department Chair Dr. Constance Korosec and the entire Fashion Department, she has had several internships and jobs while attending Ursuline, including designing more than 30 costumes for a local theater production, working in wardrobe for a web series, and interning at a notable costume shop in Atlanta. “Everyday Brave” is her third collection presented at Ursuline College and she is excited to share transforming garments based on superheroes. The goal was to perform "magic tricks" on stage with each garment changing into something else. More of her work can be found on her website: HannahBarucky.com.
