The Ursuline College Athletic Department announced STUNT as its twelfth sport that will begin during the 2020-2021 school year.
STUNT is one of the fastest growing female sports in the country. The sport removes the crowd-leading element and focuses on the technical and athletic components of cheer, including partner stunts, pyramids, basket tosses, group jumps and tumbling. These elements are put together in short routines that both teams must perform head-to-head on the floor at the same time.
The team that executes the skills best wins the round and the point and has the opportunity to determine which routine level will be called next. There are four total quarters of play, partner stunts, pyramids & tosses, jumps & tumbling, and team routine.
"We are excited to add STUNT as our twelfth varsity sport. This will give female student-athletes an opportunity to continue their athletic and academic careers at the collegiate level. To date, we are one of only three colleges in the State of Ohio to offer STUNT, said Ursuline Director of Athletics Cindy McKnight."
The STUNT team at Ursuline will have the opportunity to be awarded athletic and academic scholarships. The team will hold practices and competitions in the Seidman Gymnasium located inside the Sister Diana Stano Athletic Center.
Currently, 12 NCAA programs offer STUNT under Athletics while 27 NCAA Club, NAIA and JuCo programs offer STUNT. There are over 200 high school programs across the country.
Ursuline joins fellow Great Midwest member Tiffin University along with Hiram College as the only schools in Ohio to offer STUNT.
