US News and World Report ranked Ursuline College as 8th among Regional Universities in the Midwest and #1 in Ohio for Upward Social Mobility. This accolade comes on the heels of last spring’s designation by the American Council on Education and the Carnegie Foundation as Northeast Ohio’s only Opportunity College for providing higher access and higher earnings.
“Approximately half of our students are the first in their families to attend college and 40 percent are Pell-eligible,” states President David King EdD. “Our mission of educating for service, leadership, and professional excellence goes hand-in-hand with helping our students pursue their full potential. We change the trajectory of not just their lives but the lives of their families for generations.”
Ursuline was also ranked for the first time in the Best Colleges for Veterans and Best Value Schools categories for Regional Midwest Universities, landing the 29th spot for both in the overall groups. Among Ohio schools, Ursuline was ranked 4th in service to veterans and 7th in terms of value.
Overall, Ursuline College ranked 10th in the state and 61st among Midwest Regional Universities, leapfrogging 48 spots from last year. The Breen School of Nursing and Health Professions at Ursuline is ranked in the upper third among all programs nationwide for its Bachelor of Science in Nursing and 8th in the state.
“These rankings reflect that Ursuline provides not only an excellent education at a great value,” explains Dr. King. “But also, the personal attention and dignity that each student deserves to be successful.”
The release of the new rankings coincides with the one-year anniversary of Ursuline and Gannon University announcing their planned merger to be completed late 2026.
“We’re looking forward to offering even more opportunities to our students and the people of Northeast Ohio through our strategic partnership with Gannon,” adds King.
