Ursuline College proudly recognizes Dr. Patricia A. Sharpnack, Dean of The Breen School of Nursing and Health Professions, for her nomination to the YWCA Greater Cleveland Women of Achievement Award, one of the region’s most prestigious honors celebrating women leaders who elevate their professions and communities.
In a nomination letter submitted by Ursuline President Dr. David King, the College highlighted Dr. Sharpnack’s transformative impact on nursing education, student success, and community health — qualities that distinguish her as a true woman of achievement.
“Dr. Sharpnack embodies Ursuline’s mission to provide holistic education that transforms students for service, leadership, and professional excellence,” wrote President King. “She has spent her entire career improving her profession, her community, and the lives of her students. I can think of no better candidate for this award.”
A Legacy of Excellence and Impact
Under Dr. Sharpnack’s leadership, Ursuline’s nursing programs have earned national recognition, repeatedly cited as among the strongest in the country.
She has shaped a culture where students are known as individuals, supported by best-practice resources, and guided by faculty committed to their academic and personal success.
Many Breen School students are the first in their families to attend college. High school guidance counselors across Northeast Ohio routinely recommend Ursuline for promising nursing candidates who may lack resources but possess deep commitment — because they know that “Pat Sharpnack will help them prosper and change the trajectory of their lives and families for generations.”
Dr. Sharpnack’s innovations in student support, clinical preparation, and community partnerships have strengthened Northeast Ohio’s healthcare workforce and expanded access to high-quality nursing education.
