A large part of the success of the Ursuline College Physician Assistant program is the strong hands-on experiences offered in the clinical phase of the program. We cannot provide these excellent experiences without dedicated professional clinical preceptors. Whether new to the PA profession or a seasoned veteran, UCPA needs you!
The UCPA Program is comprised of 24 months of learning. The first 12 are dedicated to didactic learning, and the second 12 months are focused on clinical experiences. We have seven core rotations lasting six weeks (Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Surgery, Psychiatry, and Women’s Health) and one elective rotation.
Our students come to the program with a wide range of healthcare backgrounds and consistently excel during their clinical rotations. See our curriculum for detailed class information. Physician Assistant students are trained to take medical histories, perform physical exams, develop differential diagnoses and treatment plans, and document their findings under the supervision and education of a clinical experience preceptor.
Preceptors may be certified physician assistants, physicians (MD/DO), or certified nurse practitioners/certified nurse midwives. All preceptors must possess the experience, knowledge, and effectiveness in their area of instruction as determined by the program. They must be licensed in the state in which they practice, qualified in their specialty, and—per ARC-PA Standards—physician preceptors must be board-certified in their area of expertise. Supervised Clinical Practice Experiences (SCPEs) are structured to ensure students achieve all required program learning outcomes. We accept preceptors from all specialties and locations.
