Ready to take the next step? Apply online and receive a decision within two weeks.
Ursuline’s Art and Design program gives you the opportunity to explore a variety of traditional and digital means of making work. In our non-competitive studio environment, you’ll be free to make mistakes, embrace risk, and share your stories and ideas.
Foundation courses in drawing, painting, photography and three-dimensional work will help you acquire new technical skills, develop your sense of perception and understand principles of design. Art history electives will re-frame your thinking about the context of art and design, and advanced courses will enable you to bring your work to a new level. Finally, because broad knowledge is essential to making meaningful, socially engaged work, you'll hone your intellect in the Ursuline Core Curriculum. You'll have more to say, and you'll say it through art and design.
Students may choose a 3+3 Bridge to the Master's in Counseling and Art Therapy Program. Contact the department chair, Sr. Rosaria Perna, OSU, MFA, for details.
The critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills you will gain in Ursuline’s Art and Design major can be applied to graduate studies, many different careers, or to art or design practice in your own studio. Your exposure to using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign will make you a valuable member of a corporate or nonprofit marketing team.
The Art and Design program pairs well with Ursuline’s new 4+1 approach to teacher preparation. On this pathway, you would major in Art and Design and take certain Education courses in your four undergraduate years. Then you’d spend a fifth year earning a master’s degree in education and preparing for certification.
