Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with Art Therapy concentration From the Director

Dear Prospective Student:

Have you been searching for a career that combines your desire to help others with your passion for the healing value of creativity and art making? The CACREP- and CAAHEP-accredited Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with Art Therapy concentration, program at Ursuline will enable you to combine those interests in a unique professional program that prepares you for dual licensure as a professional clinical mental health counselor and licensed professional art therapist in the state of Ohio.

The program’s philosophy incorporates a broad range of theoretical approaches, and the development of your professional identity and theoretical approach is emphasized. There are also several opportunities for co-curricular involvement, including through our Chi Alpha Theta chapter of Chi Sigma Iota (international counseling society), as well as a mentoring program that provides support as students adjust to graduate school. Many of our students also take advantage of opportunities to participate in several annual art exhibitions, , specialized art workshops, attend local and national conferences, and much more!

You will study in active, collaborative classes in a new state-of-the-art facility equipped with classrooms, studio and skills lab spaces, and observation/taping areas. Core faculty members, who are experienced counselors and art therapists with expertise in a variety of specializations – along with several adjuncts, supervisors, and other outside experts – will contribute to your learning and professional development.

The program is based on a cohort model, with new cohorts starting in the Fall term, and students typically complete the program in eight semesters of full-time study, including summers. It is possible to go at a slower pace, and students who wish to do so can work closely with their advisors to plan their progress through the program.

There were 69 students actively enrolled during 2025-2026. The program had 18 graduates, 94% of whom graduated within 3 years (full-time status). In 2025, the first attempt pass rate on the National Counselor Exam was 91%, well above the national average of 71%. The employment rate of graduates has remained at or near 100% for the past several years, with most reporting positive placement at the time of graduation, and in follow-up surveys.
