Home / Inside Ursuline / Strategic Partnership
The Boards of Trustees at Ursuline College and Gannon University have approved a Definitive Agreement to unite, forming a premier Catholic institution along Lake Erie.
The Definitive Agreement, which is a binding agreement, solidifies the intention of the partnership that spans three states - Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Florida.
Under the agreement, Ursuline will adopt the name Ursuline College Campus of Gannon University. It will maintain its Catholic identity, continue its focus on women-centered education, and position itself for future enrollment growth as part of this strategic partnership.
The Definitive Agreement will be reviewed by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) in June of 2025. Upon receiving the HLC’s approval, a change of control will take effect, officially integrating Ursuline College into Gannon University, headquartered in Erie, Pennsylvania. Gannon has an additional campus in Ruskin, Florida.
Ursuline College Campus of Gannon University will continue its normal operations, with governance being the most immediate and visible change as the Ursuline College Board of Trustees relinquish their responsibilities. A transitional Board of Trustees for the College will be created.
This partnership is grounded in mutual respect, complementary missions and values, and a shared dedication to strengthening each institution’s unique assets while honoring their individual histories. Through this collaboration, Ursuline students will benefit from expanded opportunities, an increased array of programs, and enriched learning experiences, ensuring a vibrant future for the College amid a dynamic period in American higher education.
The merging of Gannon and Ursuline will occur over a period of 18 to 24 months as integration teams, now under way, look for the best and most efficient ways to continue offering students the best education.
Ursuline College is committed to keeping its community informed throughout this exciting journey. Please check back regularly for updates on this historic endeavor.
