An Update from Ursuline College President Sister Christine De Vinne, OSU, PhD
In this week that draws together Passover and Easter, we give thanks to God whose help leads us through. We will rise again.
Before we celebrate, here are a few reminders and updates.
- If you must come to campus, take these necessary precautions, for the sake of our Facilities staff, who keep us safe 24/7.
- Do not come to campus if you have been exposed to the virus or if you have any symptoms. Stay home.
- On campus, keep at least 6’ apart. You are strongly urged to wear a mask.
- Any students, staff, or faculty who need technology or need help with technology, please send a request ticket or email to our IT Service Desk. We want to connect you to the hardware and help you need.
- The library is automatically renewing all materials checked out. If you have an overdue book or other item, do not come to campus to return it. Keep it until the library reopens.
- Led by our Breen School of Nursing, we continue to reach out to nurses and other healthcare workers at Hillcrest Hospital and Ahuja Medical Center. Latest:
- The Breen School loaned all available beds from the Nursing Resource Center to University Hospital, working to increase its capacity for patient care. Many thanks to our Facilities crew who packed and loaded all the equipment this past weekend.
- Mary Jo Cherry and Stacey O’Brien continue to bake hundreds of delicious individual treats for the hospitals and deliver them with warm Ursuline College wishes.
- Tyler James with Metz joined the effort and baked nearly 500 cookies, packaged them in bundles of two and donated them to healthcare workers there too.
- Long-time BSON supporter Dr. Paulette Goll lends her help with additional donations to these hospitals.
- Connie Korosec lent her personal and professional skills to sewing masks for our Facilities Department staff members, who are keeping campus safe while most of us have been working and sheltering at home.
- Deanne Hurley, Kathy LaFontana, and Mary Anne Ursick held a virtual committee meeting with 13 graduating students on Friday 3 April to re-envision Commencement 2020. If you are a graduating student, both undergrad and grad, watch for an email inviting you to a brief survey so that the committee has your ideas. Congratulations, Class of 2020! We are so proud of your perseverance in the midst of all this.
- Wasmer Gallery invites all artists residing in the US to submit digital work for its "Self Portraits: Artists Respond to COVID-19" virtual art exhibition. Learn more here.
- A crew from Campo Roofing began work on the Mullen roof Monday 6 April. By the end of “April showers,” we should be snug and dry.
Throughout the Easter season, may you find ways to celebrate in your homes and in your heart. Stay safe, stay healthy, be grateful.
