    Wasmer Gallery

    The Florence O'Donnell Wasmer Gallery is a non-profit gallery owned and operated by Ursuline College and welcoming the public to free, professionally mounted art exhibitions approximately six times a year.

    Wasmer Gallery has moved to the heart of campus
    Review directions to our location in the Mullen Academic Building

    Wasmer Gallery exhibits fine art of educational value by professional and amateur artists. The Gallery has a full schedule each exhibition season and welcomes proposals by artists for upcoming schedules. This year we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Wasmer Gallery, which opened in 1980 and was named in gratitude for the generosity and vision of the late Florence (O’Donnell) Wasmer and John C. Wasmer.

    Fall 2023 Showcase

    New Masters 3: Women Artists of Northeast Ohio

    November 10, 2023 – January 25, 2024

    The Florence O’Donnell Wasmer Gallery presents Ursuline College’s New Masters 3: Women Artists of Northeast Ohio is a stunning and dynamic juried exhibition showcasing art of a diverse range of disciplines by emerging and established women artists who live and create in the region.

    Thank you to everyone who participated! It takes a tremendous amount of courage and belief to put your work out there. We received a record 450 online entries submitted by 187 artists for The New Masters 3: Women Artists of Northeast Ohio. Our juror Hilary D. Gent, painter and founder of HEDGE Gallery, met the challenge to select 47 artworks created by 45 artists and award $2,800 in cash prizes including the $1,000 Best in Show. The selected artists and winning works are noted below.

    The show runs through January 25, 2024 with an special Saturday viewing on December 9, and is supported in part by the residents of Cuyahoga County through a public grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture. Note: Ursuline College and Wasmer Gallery are closed November 22 through 27, 2023 and December 22, 2023 through January 1, 2023

    The Florence O’Donnell Wasmer Gallery at Ursuline College presents “Juneteenth: Freedom and Community Exhibition" as part of the second annual Juneteenth Celebration. This visually stunning and emotionally stimulating exhibit explores freedom and community as our society evolves. The bedazzling works of the African American Quilt and Doll Guild create a visual dialogue recognizing the racial inequities and transformative cultural experiences in our world.

    Dolls have been important to cultures since the beginning of civilization, dating back to ancient Egypt. In this exhibit, explore dolls that have been created by local artists, including a 30 Barbie doll installation, vintage Burmese marionettes, and hand-crafted fabric dolls, each with their own complex, unique, and dynamic personality.
