Theoretical studies meet practical applications in the undergraduate chemistry degree program. Newly renovated chemistry labs, unique research opportunities, prestigious internships, inspiring professors, and an intimate learning environment set you up for success. Plus, our partnership with Cleveland State University will allow you to experience the benefits of both an intimate college and a large university, with two upper-level courses offered at CSU's downtown campus.

    Careers: Chemistry Bachelor’s Degree Program

A degree in chemistry allows students access to entry-level positions in science-based industries, such as the chemical, polymer, environmental, forensic and pharmaceutical industries and government labs. When the bachelor’s degree is combined with a master’s degree in education, students can teach high school chemistry. Students can also combine a bachelor’s degree with graduate degrees in chemistry, engineering, forensic science, environmental science, pharmacology, or other sciences as preparation for leadership positions in science-based industries, government labs, and post-secondary education.

A degree in chemistry is also excellent preparation for professional schools in medicine, dentistry, optometry, podiatry, veterinary medicine, and law. The addition of a few courses to the chemistry major core allows pre-medicine students to prepare for medical school admission.

Considering pharmacy school? Through Ursuline's partnership with Duquesne University School of Pharmacy, you may choose to spend three years at Ursuline majoring in chemistry before moving to Duquesne for an additional four years. The first year of pharmacy school fulfills the requirements for a bachelor’s in chemistry from Ursuline College, while the combined four fulfill the requirements for the Pharm.D. Or, through the 2+4 Program, you could spend two years at Ursuline and four at Duquesne to earn only the Pharm.D. from Duquesne (and no bachelor's degree).

    Scholarships: Chemistry Bachelor’s Degree Program

You may qualify for the renewable Hedy Mulhausen Chemistry Endowed Scholarship of up to $5,000. You'll be considered for this award at the time of your admission. Students who are designated Mulhausen Scholars have their names added to a plaque in the Chemistry Department and may add this honor to their resumes to draw the attention of potential graduate schools or employers to this distinction.

The Hedy Mulhausen Chemistry Endowed Scholarship is named in honor of alumna Hedy Mulhausen. After graduating from Ursuline with a bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1962, Hedy went on to defy common expectations for women of that time. She earned a master's degree and a PhD from The Ohio State University and pursued a career in the chemical industry that culminated in her presenting workshops on six continents. She enjoyed extensive travel for pleasure as well. She established this scholarship to assist future chemistry students.
