    Adjunct Clinical Nursing Faculty

    Summary

    Adjunct clinical nursing faculty members are appointed to a part-time position to teach in clinical settings. Positions are available immediately.

    Responsibilities

    The following list serves as a guide for Clinical Adjunct Faculty in relation to their responsibilities in the clinical setting with students. There may be additional responsibilities in a particular course that are not part of this list.

    • Maintaining clinical competence in the area(s) being taught.
    • Completing required clock hours of contracted clinical work per week.
    • Attending Orientation on campus annually unless excused; Attending the Blessing of the Hands/White Coat Ceremony (if Sophomore Level Clinical Adjunct Faculty).
    • Attending clinical meetings on campus as scheduled by the Course Coordinator (a maximum of three meetings for 15-wk courses and two meetings for 7-wk courses).
    • Arranging orientation for students at the assigned clinical facility.
    • Adhering to course and clinical policies as defined by the BSN Handbook, course syllabus, and Clinical Adjunct Faculty Handbook; having a copy of the BSN Handbook on site.
    • Holding clinical briefs, huddles, and de-briefs with students during each clinical experience.
    • Adhering to the policies of the BSON and agency where assigned.
    • Evaluating clinical assignments; grading written assignments according to the rubric provided by the Course Coordinator; returning papers to students in a timely manner and when appropriate, submitting and/or posting grades on the learning management system (Canvas).
    • Providing continuous input to students about their clinical performance; providing written warning of unsatisfactory performance/written work to student and Course Coordinator; developing remediation plans with students in collaboration and action plans for success with the Course Coordinator using the Student Performance Improvement Plan (PIP).
    • Maintaining direct and open communication with the Course Coordinator particularly when there are questions about students, clinical unit/site concerns/issues, or student concerns/issues; also providing weekly updates of student progress to the Course Coordinator through e-mail or phone call.
    • Completing the clinical evaluation tool and instructing students to complete a self-evaluation of their clinical performance at the midterm point of the clinical experience; meeting with students individually to review the evaluation and sign it; reviewing all evaluations with the responsible course coordinator faculty member, and submitting all signed and completed evaluations to the Course Coordinator.
    • Evaluating the clinical site (s) using the Clinical Evaluation Site form provided by the Course Coordinator and returning this form to the Coordinator of BSN Enrollment and Clinical Placement.
    • Sharing insights and suggestions concerning congruence among the course content, clinical site, and written assignments with the Course Coordinator.
    • Checking Ursuline e-mail and Canvas daily.

    Qualifications

    1. Bachelor of Science in nursing degree; MSN degree preferred.

    2. At minimum, 24 months of experience as a graduate registered nurse.

    3. Current unencumbered RN license in the state of Ohio.
